Gazebo on the Green

What was Paradise-But a Garden!

Located 2 ˝ miles North of Iowa City at 3002 Newport Road NE are the Gardens at Gazebo on the Green, an enchanted setting for weddings, receptions, garden tours, formal English Teas, bridal and baby showers, and other special events.

The gardens are comprised of 15 formal theme gardens plus a 22 acre prairie. Greeting you upon arrival is the Crabapple Alee Garden lined with Brandywine crabapple trees, creeping phlox, evergreens and mums, followed by the Grove Garden featuring lilacs, waigolia, and flowering almonds. The other gardens you will discover as you stroll about are the English Perennial Garden crowed with a fairy tale gazebo; a French Allee Garden; a Moon Garden with all white flowers; the Arbor Garden a 65’ long white arbor with a centered pergola covered with wisteria, clematis, and roses separating the Water Garden singing with the muted sounds of a cascading waterfall and the Rose Garden; a Perennial Cutting Garden; John's Garden, a memorial garden commenerating the owner’s husband; the Southern Courtyard Garden with brick walkways showcasing azaleas, hydrangeas, and hellebores; an Herb Garden; a Grass Garden; the Cottage Garden that embraces the enchanting English cottage gift shop, Design Studio and drying facility; and Le Grande Finale Garden featuring twin portico gardens separated by a brick seating area.

Tour the gardens and crown your experience with a formal English Tea, served in the 65’ long white arbor, accompanied by the lyrical sounds of songbirds and the soothing cascade of a waterfall.

Three teas are served:
Morning/Afternoon Tea with fruit, sweets, and tea
Luncheon Tea with fruit, sandwiches, sweets and tea
Candlelight Tea

Tours of the gardens may be made without a tea, but teas cannot be held without a garden tour, because the teas are served in the gardens. Since the teas are catered, reservations must be made in advance. Minimum for tea is 4 persons, maximum is 50.

Allow 1 ˝ hours for a garden tour; 2 ˝ -3 hours for a tour, tea and visit to the gift shop.

Saturdays frequently find us hosting weddings and/or receptions. The gardens are closed for these events. Three gardens are designated as wedding gardens–the English Perennial Garden with gazebo; the Arbor Garden with the pergola; and Le Grande Finale Garden with porticos.

Paths and mazes are cut through the 22 acre prairie for those wishing to explore. The time schedule listed above does not include the prairie tour.

All events are scheduled by appointment. The gardens are available 7 days a week May 1st – October 1st.
